The first Video Gewgaw features my Egg Cuber, an odd, yet well made little contraption from the 1970s. Today was the first time I ever used it, and filmed it, for posterity. Enjoy!

OOohyooo.
I remember those! I actually bought one with my allowance at Cost Plus in the '70's. Along with other items of dubious value ( rabbit fur stuffed koala doll, anyone?)
They stay square as long as you squish em while they are hot and then let them cool down in the mold.
I guess they fit better in a bento box that way?
We have a similar era contraption called an"Ice Pet" for making shaved ice. Don' the Japanese know how to make regular stuff look like it's gonna be really FUN?
What I found is that the egg stays on your plate without rolling off, which does make it practical. I think it would be fun to make a bunch of square deviled eggs.
There's a gadget for every food prep activity in Japan, and most look like they were designed for Hello Kitty.
